178 - Landscape with a Low Hill and a Group of Trees | |
Called by Finberg ‘River Scene with Trees', this drawing appears to show an English view, possibly in Sussex. It is not clear that the central band of green is intended to represent water. The technique, using watercolour very unctuously and fluidly, is similar to that in some of the studies of skies dating from c.1817-20 in the 'Skies' sketchbook (No.177) and in certain ‘colour-beginnings' probably associated with them.
