6. Synthesis 1814-19
188 - ‘Farnley’ sketchbook - Interior of the Library, Farnley, with Details of the Ceiling and Two Women at a Table

A few of the sketches in this book seem to be preparatory to the painting 'Entrance of the Meuse: Orange Merchant on the Bar' of 1819 (No.166); the rest are studies made at Farnley and in the surrounding countryside, and were used for a number of the finished drawings executed for Walter Fawkes in about 1818. The drawing on ff.15v and 16r is continued to the right on f.17r. Through the open door in the left-hand wall can be glimpsed the drawing room (see No.189).
