Engraved by H. le Keux for Rogers' Italy, 1830, p.25 (Rawlinson No.354) as headpiece for the section Marguerite de Tours'. In the engraving the date on the cross in the foreground is altered to '1814'. Although Italy was not published until 1830, some of the engravers' proofs of the vignettes are dated 1828 and 1829. Finberg says (1961, p.307) that Turner had finished at least most of his vignettes for Rogers' Italy by the end of 1828. It seems likely that Turner's share of the work was under way at least a year, perhaps more, before that and it is therefore possible that the date 1826 on the drawing is that of its execution.
