463 - ‘Genoa and Florence’ Sketchbook - Two Views of Florence from near S. Miniato | |
![]() | ||
Used on Turner's second journey to Italy, August-October 1828, from which he returned in January 1829. The book includes drawings of Genoa, Lucca, Florence, Pisa and Livorno. The exhibited studies show Florence in much the same view that Turner chose for his three finished watercolours of Florence, one of which was engraved for the Keepsake in 1828 (see No.466) and must, therefore, have been done prior to this visit to Italy.
