467 - Two Trees in a Landscape
![]() | ||
Finberg describes this economical sketch as an Italian Landscape' but it is difficult to say whether Turner had any particular location in mind. The trees are similar to those in 'Coast Scene near Naples', provisionally dated to 1828 (No.470), but the background of this drawing, apparently showing a lake, does not correspond to that of the painting. There is perhaps a connection with the watercolour of 'Arona on Lake Maggiore' (No.466), where two trees, coloured contrastingly in very dark green (almost black) and yellow are seen against the waters of the lake. 'Arona' is also dateable to about 1828. An image generated by an AI Machine Learning Model Property of the artist.
