492 - Rough Sea with Wreckage
![]() | ||
One of a number of paintings of stormy seas in the Turner Bequest. These are in varying degrees of finish, but it is possible to place them provisionally in rough chronological order. This example, with its relatively solidly modelled clouds and waves making a disciplined composition notwithstanding the energy of the forces involved, can be tentatively dated to the early 1830s. It can in particular be related to 'Mouth of the Seine, Quille-Boeuf', exhibited in 1833 (No.491). An image generated by an AI Machine Learning Model Property of the artist.
