Probably the boldest of all the unexhibited oils of stormy seas in the Turner Bequest; it is tempting to place this last in the series. Here the swirling composition is interrupted by the dark form thrusting in from the left so that it impinges on the light glowing out of the centre of the picture, a heightened contrast of tones typical of Turner.
