Apparently bought at the Academy by Edwin Bullock of Handsworth. One of the three Venetian pictures on view with Nos.534 and 535, all characterised by the Spectator for 13 May as 'beaming with sunlight and gorgeous colour, and full of atmosphere; though, as usual, all forms and local hues are lost in the blaze of effect.'
