551 - Venice: the Dogana and S. Giorgio Maggiore in a Storm
![]() | ||
Probably the drawing catalogued by Finberg (Venice 1930, p.159) as 'The Approaching Storm', and dated by him to c. 1835. The subject and treatment have affinities with the Sale drawing (British Museum 1915-3-13-50) and the Ruskin 'Storm at Sunset' (Fitzwilliam Museum No.590); all three may record the same storm as perhaps may the 'Storm in the Piazetta' in the National Gallery of Scotland (repr. Finberg, Venice, 1930, pl.xix). An image generated by an AI Machine Learning Model Property of the artist.
