Engraved in mezzotint by C. Turner, 1824, for The Rivers of England Part II pl.i (Rawlinson No.756). The subject is a modification, smaller in format, of the design (T.B.CXVIII-D) for the Liber Studiorum plate mezzotinted by C. Turner in 1816 (No.643). Cooke's accounts show that he paid Turner eight guineas for the loan of the drawing in 1822. It has been argued, by Finley (1973, PP.386ff.), that this watercolour marks the beginning of Turner's application of prismatic colour theory in his work.
