092 - 'Rhine, Strassburg and Oxford' Sketchbook - Two studies for Pictures | |
The book was used by Turner during his journey back from Switzerland in 1802 and, at random unused openings, at Oxford. The study on f.43v is for 'Apollo and Python' (Tate Gallery 488; see under Nos.77-8); that on f.44r possibly for 'Jason' (No.73) or, like that on f.45, for the 'Garden of the Hesperides' (R.A. 1806; Tate Gallery 477).
