One of the numerous preparatory proofs of the etched outline for the plate, published in 1812 with part x of the Liber (R.I). Finberg (Liber Studiorum, 1924) describes the central design as drawn with pen and sepia: it is, in fact, etched in outline with brown wash added. The impression belonged to Henry Vaughan, who bequeathed it to the British Museum. For the published states mezzotint was added to Turner's etching by J. C. Easling.
