A pencil drawing of the subject is in the 'Views of Sussex' sketchbook (T.B.CXXXVIII f. 19r); that book, and the 'Vale of Heathfield' Sketchbook (No. 130), were in use c.1815-16 when Turner was collecting material for the series of Sussex views commissioned by John Fuller of Rosehill Park, of which 'The Vale of Pevensey' is one. Four of the designs were aquatinted by J. C. Stadler c.1818 (see No.B102); this subject appeared as 'Rosehill' (Rawlinson No.822).
