Engraved by R. Brandard for Turner's Annual Tour — the Loire, 1833 (Rawlinson No.435). Ruskin described this and the 'Montjeu', also at Oxford (Herrmann 1968, No.40), as 'full of repentirs and entirely bad' but 'sent them with the rest - lest it should be thought that I had kept the two best - many people might think them so. They are instructive, as showing the ruin that comes on the greatest men when they change their minds wantonly'. It is difficult to understand why Ruskin was critical of this design.
