Compare this treatment of the subject with the larger watercolour of c.1825 and with the colourbeginnings' which also use the panorama from Richmond Hill (Nos.256 and 257). There is a tradition that the view was taken from Wick House, built for Sir Joshua Reynolds by Sir William Chambers; but it seems more probable that it was intended to show the garden of the 'Star and Garter' Inn which may be the building on the extreme left.
