In addition to the series of sketches of Edinburgh, Kelso, Melrose, Dryburgh, Sedburgh and Smailholme which were used for Cadell's Scott, this book also contains a page of studies of Norham Castle (f.59v), which may well have rekindled Turner's interest in the theme, and been used as the basis for some of the later colourbeginnings' leading on to the final painting (see Nos. 649-50).
