The subject was tentatively identified as Grenoble by Finberg, who on the strength of that hypothesis called the sketchbook (T.B.CCXL) 'Grenoble?'. It is clear, however, that the town represented is that which appears in the 'Coburg, Bamberg and Venice' sketchbook (T.B.CCCX, ff.55, 56). Many drawings in both CCCXL and cccx can be identified as showing sites on the Danube near Ratisbon, including the 'Walhalla' completed in 1840.
