One of the ten Swiss drawings of 1842; No.3 in Ruskin's list. It was bought by Munro of Novar, and subsequently owned by Ruskin, J. E. Taylor and R. A. Tatton. The preparatory watercolour is in the Turner Bequest (No.602), and another study was shown at Agnew's exhibition, Turner, 1967(85).
