Eternity Forever

On 27 September 1980, I performed ‘Eternity Forever - 1’ during a performance festival at the Willem II Fabriek, in Den Bosch, the Netherlands. While the Belgian occasional group Simpletones (Johan De Smet and Rudy Cabie) plays repetitive music, I pull a heavy stone across the ground in the shape of an infinity sign. The performance followed ‘This Week I was Beaten up for Love - 1’ on the same day at the same festival.

The performance is halted by the intervention of a visitor who throws a glass of beer over a power socket after 20 minutes, causing all power to go out.

Both performances are recorded without sound with a black-and-white security camera on a U-matic tape. The sound is edited afterwards from a cassette recording of the performance.

42 years later, I recreated myself in miniature in a 3D software programme, transforming a model railway with a train into a sculpture that evokes my 1980 performance.
